Q62: Does it require effort to say no to sin and yes to righteousness?

Answer: Yes. I must work out my salvation as the Spirit works in me.

"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." (Philippians 2:12-13)

Q63: What does it mean to work out your salvation?

Answer: To trust God and obey his word.

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but much more in my absence, workout your own salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12)

Q64: What is the goal of the Spirit in helping you trust and obey?

Answer: To transform me into the image of Christ.

"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Q65: How do you know if you are being transformed?

Answer: I am bearing the fruit of the Spirit.

"By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples." (John 15:8)

Q66: What is the fruit of the Spirit?

Answer: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23)
